The Sound of Trucks
They didn’t want to be here.
Looming in the background are permanent structures, tall buildings, well, at least compared to this. Here, rows of tents clustered together, planted on a dry landscape that does nothing to welcome them.
Many things are in short supply: jobs, food, adequate shelter from the elements, education for the children; most things that people take for granted.
Noise in the background, the sound of an engine traveling coming up the mud road that cuts through the tent settlement.
In a place where there is little predictability, the sound of the trucks is reassuring. It is one less thing to worry about.
Water. Clean, clear water for everyone, delivered daily. For drinking, for washing, for cleaning.
Every day there are many problems, but right now water is not one of them.
